New Library-Focused Podcast Puts Spotlight on PA Librarians

PaLAunchPod, a new podcast series created by Pennsylvania librarians taking part in a Pennsylvania Library Association-related initiative, will premier on February 1st! The podcast series features spectacular Pennsylvania librarians and the amazing things they do in their libraries and their communities. Librarians from all types of libraries will be featured in the series.

The first episode features a children’s librarian from a public library who found a way to connect incarcerated parents with their children through reading.

5th Annual PA Forward Information Literacy Summit

The PA Forward Information Literacy Summit is back for 2017!  This summit will focus around libraries and maker culture, and will be relevant to any librarians interested or involved in teaching and learning, including academic, public, school, and special librarians, and other educators.

A detailed call for proposals will be shared at the end of January, and proposals will be due by March 15, 2017.  For more information, please contact one of the conference co-chairs:  Debbie Malone (debbie.malone@desales.edu) or Rebecca Miller (rkm17@psu.edu).  We look forward to reading your proposals and seeing you in State College in July!

The American Library Association’s Center for the Future of Libraries is pleased to provide a fellowship for an individual or group interested in exploring the future of libraries. The fellowship will provide a stipend of $10,000 to advance new ideas and perspectives for the future of libraries through the creation of a public product – report, white paper, video, resource, tool – that will help library professionals envision the future of library collections, partnerships, services, spaces, or technologies. Projects may build on existing work, research, or initiatives of the Association, its Offices, Divisions, and Round Tables, or explore new directions and interests.

Call for articles: Pennsylvania Libraries Research & Practice vol. 5, no. 1 (Spring 2017)

Pennsylvania Libraries Research & Practice (PaLRaP) invites submissions for peer review for the Spring 2017 issue. Articles can fall under the category of research or practice, and must feature Pennsylvania libraries and librarians.

Full descriptions of the types of articles accepted, as well as online submission, can be found on the journal’s web site.

For full consideration of articles for peer review, please upload submissions by March 15, 2017.
